Abstract

Aristotle’s Metaphysics Lambda (book XII) is considered to offer Aristotle’s theology. Book XII, however, is not a theological treatise but more likely a metaphysical treatise, i.e., an inquiry in material and immaterial substances. Nevertheless, in the second part of the treatise, we have Aristotle’s account of the first principle, the Prime Unmoved Mover, an immaterial, separate eternal substance. Thus the first principle that moves the universe is God, pure intellect, everlasting actuality and eternal substantially. This section of Lambda justifies the characteristics of the Book XII as offering Aristotelian views on the problem of the existence of God.
