The world-renowned Professor of Economics, Jeffrey D. Sachs, visited the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” (DI.K.A.M.) of A.U.Th. on October 25th, and had an extremely interesting discussion with the President and the Vice President of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies.” On Wednesday 24th, Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences of A.U.Th., and the title of his speech was “Why we Need a New Aristotelian Economics.” Jeffrey D. Sachs, gave an inspirational speech by stressing the importance and timeliness of Aristotle’s work, a view which is particularly important, when it is proposed by a world-renowned Economist and leader in sustainable development, who, among other things, is a senior UN advisor, co-recipient of the 2015 Blue Planet Prize, bestselling author, and syndicated columnist, whose monthly newspaper columns appear in more than 100 countries.
Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs expressed his appreciation for the activities of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” and his willingness to support the efforts of the Executive Board for the promotion of Aristotle worldwide. Furthermore, Professor Sachs stressed that he is also willing to contribute to the efforts made through a collaboration of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and in particular of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” on the one hand and the Municipality of “Aristotle” in Chalkidiki, on the other, for the enhancement of ancient Stageira, the birthday of Aristotle −which Professor Sachs visited on October 26th and was fascinated by visit and the tour in the archaeological site.
