On October 14-16, 2015 the 6th International Meeting on Aristotle was held in Lisbon, with the title: “Energeia and Dynamis in Aristotle”.
The Meeting was organized, in the context of the Translation and Commentary Project of Aristotle’s Complete Works, by the Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon (Centro de Filosofia da Universidade de Lisboa). It was the sixth in a row of international meetings: “La Métaphysique d’Aristote” (Aix-en-Provence, 1999); “La Causalité chez Aristotle” (Bruxelles, 2002); “Las Categorías de Aristóteles” (Madrid, 2006); “Aristotle’s Psychology” (Pádua, 2008); “The Issue of Time in Aristotle” (Thessaloniki, 2012).
The Speakers were the following: Carolina Araújo (Brazil), Ricardo Santos (Portugal), Charlotte Witt (USA), David Lefebvre (France), Francisco González (Canada), Dimitra Balla (Greece), Lambros Couloubaritsis (Belgium), Gwenaëlle Aubry (France), Tomás Calvo (Spain), Filipa Afonso (Portugal), Demetra Sfendoni-Mentzou (Greece), Ursula Coope (UK), António Pedro Mesquita (Portugal), Cristina Rossitto (Italy).
The previous (5th) International Symposium, with the title “The Issue of Time in Aristotle”, was organized at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as in Naoussa and ancient Mieza, on May 12-15, 2012 by the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies”, A.U.Th.
In this year’s meeting in Lisbon the President of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies”, Professor Demetra Sfendoni-Mentzou, participated with a paper entitled:
“Potentiality as the Core of Aristotle’s Dynamic Model of Nature in the Light of Contemporary Science”
Also, the Scientific Associate of DIKAM Dr. Dimitra Balla participated with a paper entitled:
“The Principle ‘Like Begets Like’ in Aristotle’s Biology: The Semen as the Bearer of the Potential for Form”
