VISIT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE “WORLD HELLENIC INTER-PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION”, Mr. JOHN PANTAZOPOULOS TO THE “INTERDISCIPLINARY CENTRE FOR ARISTOTLE STUDIES”- A.U.TH. AND MEETING WITH THE RECTOR, PROFESSOR IOANNIS MYLOPOULOS
The President of the “World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association” (W.H.I.A.) Mr. John Pantazopoulos, an M.P. of Greek descent of Victoria, Australia, visited the “Interdisciplinary Center for Aristotle Studies” of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and was informed about its activities, goals and objects by the members of the Board. Thereafter, he visited, along with the President of the “Interdisciplinary Center for Aristotle Studies”, Professor Demetra Sfendoni-Mentzou, and the members of the Board, Professors Ioannis Seiradakis and Stavros Avgoloupis, the Rector of A.U.TH. Professor Ioannis Mylopoulos, with whom they discussed prospects of collaboration.
W.H.I.A. is an Association that consists of Members of Parliaments and Senators of Greek descent in all countries across the globe, except Greece and Cyprus. The purpose of this Association is to build relations of friendship and cooperation between Greece and the respective countries of its members, as well as to promote the Greek culture and cultural heritage. Moreover, W.H.I.A. aims at the promotion of issues of common interest, such as the repatriation of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece and the support of Greek Diaspora.
The Board Members of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies”, after thanking the President Mr. John Pantazopoulos for the honour done to visit the Centre, addressed to the members of W.H.I.A. an invitation to participate in the “Cultural promenade in the footsteps of Aristotle and Alexander the Great”, which will be organized by the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies”, in their honour in July 2013, on the occasion of the 9th General Assembly of W.H.I.A., which will take place in Athens in July 1-4. The schedule will include a visit to Stagira, the birthplace of Aristotle, and a visit to Mieza, the place where Aristotle taught Alexander the Great. Mr. John Pantazopoulos accepted the invitation with pleasure and stressed the importance of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” for the study and promotion on a global scale of the Great Macedonian philosopher, who is part of the cultural heritage of the whole world. Finally, Mr. Pantazopoulos expressed the intention of the “World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association” to support the effort to spread the spirit of Aristotle all over the world by developing partnerships between the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” and Universities, as well as Cultural Organizations, in the countries of the W.H.I.A. members.
